Vision

To be the natural professional home for all involved in Explosives and Explosives Engineering.

Mission

To promote the occupational competency, education and professional standing of those who work with explosives and provide consultative facilities for organisations and government departments within the explosives field.

Means

The Institute's Mission is achieved by:

  • Providing an education, training and examination service to ensure the competence of members in their specialized fields of explosives technology, and for the continuing improvement of training and standards.
  • Becoming the managing organisation for National Occupational Standards for the Explosives Industry
  • Moving towards becoming registered with the Engineering Council (UK)
  • The regular publication of a journal for the dissemination of articles on technical matters, a means of communication with Institute members, and as a public relations medium.
  • By developing and maintaining a professional website with a public and a Member’s only site for improving communications with the public and members.
  • Liaising and working in conjunction with legislative and regulatory bodies to attempt to ensure the practicability of control measures imposed on the activities of those whose work involves explosives.
  • Developing and maintaining an effective Secretariat, Council, Committee and Working Group structure, regional and overseas branches and other domestic and overseas professional links. These are designed to ensure prompt and efficient communications between the Institute, its members, and outside organizations and to provide facilities for regular meetings of members on both a formal and informal basis.

Title

The organization is named 'The Institute of Explosives Engineers', and this may be abbreviated to 'I.Exp.E.' where appropriate.

Strategy

The strategic aims of the Institute of Explosives Engineers for the next five years are:
  • 1. To consolidate the Institute's professional role in the UK
  • 2. To review the Institute's professional role world wide.
  • 3. To provide a technical administrative system in support of the Institute
  • 4. To make a positive contribution to the legislative and standards process in the UK and the EU in conjunction with other professional organization.
